Adria and Ryan first met through mutual friends, Matt Tichelaar and (his wife) Jodi Weiner. We were “set up” so to speak…
Matt and Ryan go back to 1988 together where they met at Shiloh Middle School. Jodi and Adria were friends and danced together in the Georgia Ballet.
They had tried passively to set us up for a while, and even though we had been in the same place at the same time at a few events, circumstances apparently just weren’t right yet. (After all, timing is a major factor in these things).
Then finally, back in March of 2007, after a bit of resistance, we agreed to finally meet each other (in the comfort of a dark, loud nightclub–at one of Ryan’s DJ gigs). Things went okay as far as “blind” dates go.
Though maybe a bit unsure of our actual “compatibility”, a few weeks later, we agreed to give it another go. This time Ryan cooked dinner for Adria and the matchmakers. Things seemed to go pretty good (Ryan’s a good cook).

After beginning to spend more time together, it became clear that these two were becoming an official “item”.
Not long after that, Adria left to teach a camp and asked Ryan to babysit her dog. That is when Maverick (Adria’s dachshund) fell in love with Ryan and Colby (the Cheese Dawg). When Adria returned and found her dog was so fond of this man, it became clear she had no choice but to follow suit.
