Plans are getting underway nicely now! So nice in fact, I haven’t had time to update our website
Earlier this spring Ryan and I signed a contract on a house and with our wedding venue. I’ve been calling hotels, caterers, officiants, and coordinators. This week I bought the dress! That seemed to be the detail that made it all begin to surface in my imagination. I am now planning with a vengeance and so excited that in less than 11 months we’ll be getting married!
We hope to get our save the dates out very soon (as you know I am always early)!
We have selected our wedding date (drum roll, please)…
We will be getting married in Atlanta on May 21, 2011!
Well, Adria and I had our meeting with our chosen venue to sign a contract for the date, sort of…
What transpired was pretty disappointing.
We showed up ready and excited to give them a date, plop down a deposit check and sign a contract, but unfortunately they would NOT sign a contract with us this past Sunday. Based on the date we were looking to chose (in 2011), they indicated they are currently only booking events through April of 2010.
It appears that local politics may be playing a part in our wedding planning now. Yes, it’s just our luck… with Kasim Reed as our new Mayor, the venue has reason (or fear) to believe that the beltline project, which runs right through their parking lot, may become a reality sooner than later. Additionally, they indicated that the recent weather conditions have caused some damage to the building (which they do not own), and it is in need of repair. It all adds up to a lot of question marks as to the future of the venue in this particular location.
So, just as alleged pending real estate deals with our former landlord surrounding the beltline & the Piedmont Park north woods reclamation project landed us out of our rental house in foreclosure & on the street last year, it now appears that we are without a wedding venue (for now).
It seems we are now pressed with some big questions… do we rush all the plans to move the wedding up, so that the bride gets the venue of her dreams? Do we hold tight to the date we originally wanted and see what plays out with the venue, and maybe seek alternatives? Or do we take this as a sign that this venue may not work out for us and move on to a different venue altogether?
Adria & I have an appointment to hopefully sign a contract with a venue this weekend, so stay tuned for date and venue news to come!!
*fingers crossed*
This weekend brought some big firsts in our little journey…
First off, I took Adria’s mom to see the venue. I was sent on this mission solo while Adria was prepping for her show because Adria was afraid to see The Mom’s reaction of what is clearly her favorite venue and our front-runner.
Mom loved the venue.
This makes for a very happy bride-to-be. More on that to come…
Another biggie was this weekend marked the first meeting between our families! Though we’ve been together a few years already, the opportunity and timing hadn’t aligned properly until now. Adria’s mom came up for Adria’s show and I talked my dad, sister, brother-in-law and both nephews into coming to see Adria dance. They all met at my place & we went to an early dinner and hit the show. Everyone behaved great!
The final first was the boys getting to see their first ballet. Adria danced the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker, and she did so gracefully and beautifully. Oh, and it was her mom’s first time seeing her in that role, and I know that was special. I didn’t sit next to the boys, but I think they enjoyed it. The youngest nephew, Cody, got to bring the Sugar Plum daisies. He’s such a flirt… I gotta keep my eye on that kid.
It’s between 2 dates and we would ask for your input only we really don’t want it because we would only end up even more confused! What’s funnier than 2 libras trying to choose a wedding date??
We are narrowing it down! Getting anxious to sign a contract with a venue and get things really rolling… Sent the fam 4 dates with our favorite hidden among them to make sure they can all be there to share in the love. Shouldn’t be long now….
Ryan and I went to see our 1st venue today. I had mixed feelings about going to see my 1st choice before seeing anything else but we were both excited about the space and could definitely see ourselves tying the knot there. Now we just have to set the date and commit to this venue! After seeing a couple more, of course. The three giant sweet dogs were encouraging though… I’m getting excited!
